Hon. Kwame Osei Bampoe, widely known as KOB, has drawn a firm line in the New Patriotic Party’s internal contest, openly backing Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s flagbearer bid while warning that the party risks tearing itself apart if identity politics is allowed to dominate the 2026 presidential primaries.

Responding to recent comments by a group styling itself as a “Zongo Group” within the NPP, KOB said the attempt to frame Dr. Bawumia’s candidacy through sectional lenses is both dangerous and deeply unfair.

According to KOB, his support for Dr. Bawumia is grounded in performance, policy vision, and national appeal—not religious or ethnic considerations. He argued that turning the internal race into an identity contest weakens the party’s democratic credentials and hands ammunition to political opponents.
“The NPP does not belong to any tribe, religion, or community,” KOB stated. “When we reduce leadership selection to where a candidate comes from rather than what they bring to the table, we betray the very values that built this party.”

KOB dismissed claims that offering Dr. Bawumia another opportunity would be electorally reckless, describing such arguments as fear-driven narratives designed to intimidate delegates rather than persuade them.
He further warned that scapegoating Dr. Bawumia for past electoral outcomes ignores broader national and global factors that affected governance and voter behaviour, insisting that responsibility in democratic politics is collective, not selective.
With the 2026 primaries approaching, KOB called on party leadership to rein in divisive rhetoric and refocus the conversation on ideas, strategy, and unity ahead of the 2028 general elections.
“Our comeback will not be powered by threats or identity-based pressure,” KOB said. “It will be driven by strong leadership, clear ideas, and a united NPP that speaks to all Ghanaians.”
