The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has expressed deep sorrow following a devastating fire outbreak at the Amakom Market, popularly known as Anlo Dwom, which occurred on Monday, January 26, 2026.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Assembly described the incident as a major setback to traders who lost goods, livelihoods, and years of hard work to the blaze.

The KMA extended heartfelt sympathy to all affected traders and their families, noting that the impact of the fire goes beyond property loss and threatens the economic stability of many households.

On behalf of the Metropolitan Chief Executive, the Assembly commended the Ghana National Fire Service for its swift and professional response, which helped bring the fire under control and prevent further destruction.

Appreciation was also extended to individuals and institutions that supported the emergency response efforts.

According to the statement, the KMA is collaborating with relevant agencies to assess the extent of damage caused by the fire and to explore appropriate interventions to support affected traders.

The Assembly assured the public that further updates would be communicated as engagements and assessments continue.

The KMA also called on traders affected by the incident to remain calm, united, and cooperative as efforts are made to identify sustainable solutions.

It reiterated its commitment to strengthening safety measures in markets across the metropolis to help prevent similar incidents in the future.
“In this difficult moment, we encourage all affected persons to take strength from our collective solidarity. You are not alone,” the statement said, adding that the Assembly stands with traders and will work toward recovery, resilience, and hope.

The statement was signed by Henrietta A.K. Aboagye, Public Relations Officer of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, and released to all media houses.
