Story by Michael Ofosu-Afriyie, Kumasi.

Osofo Kwaku Amponsah has asked the Assin Central Legislator, Kennedy Agyapong to contest the upcoming presidential election unaffiliated.

According to the preacher man, Kennedy Agyapong has better competences and expertise to turn the economic fortunes of Ghana around.

In an article beneath, Osofo Amponsah states in a copious manner his reasons for asking the maverick politician to contest the December 7 poll as independent minded candidate.

Ghana’s Election Prophecy: Ken Must Stand
Breaking the Cycle: Embracing Change for Progress

Our current socio-economic struggles transcend the actions and inactions of individuals like Akufo-Addo, Mahama, or Bawumia. The core of most of our challenges is woven into the fabric of the very structures of our political system, especially at the party level. Any candidate who emerges as president from this current party political framework is already compromised, indebted, and bound to the obligations of the kingmakers.
These kingmakers prioritize personal agendas over national welfare. They are the same people who are appointed to key positions in respective governments, not for their expertise and competence but for their loyalties. Appointees from such backgrounds feel entitled and end up abusing and undermining the very institutions they serve. Without independent systems to check such abuses, it depends on the president to direct resources to bring such people to book. However, as the Akan adage goes, obi y3 wo papa a, na wa hawo (whoever favours you in any small way ends up becoming your pain). How does the president do this without being considered ungrateful to the very people who helped them ascend?
The solution lies with a focused, honest, firm person who emerges from outside the political system without such obligations. That is how we begin to crawl and learn to walk as a nation. Doing so will require everyone to make some amount of sacrifice. These are critical times for critical actions. Irrespective of our political leanings, we must embrace a spirit of unity and sacrifice for the greater good of Ghana. This is not just a choice but a noble commitment to our beloved countrys future.
Continuous insights and revelations have compellingly pointed to the Honourable Ken Agyapong as the ideal visionary capable of taking this role and setting the platform for future development. In less than a month, the electoral commission will open nominations for registration, and KEN MUST STAND. He must also choose by leaving the party that he so much loves for the sake of our nation. Again, each one of us must make some sacrifices to realize this revelation.

What Must Change

The only way out is for Ken Agyapong, unaffiliated, to represent the departure from the repetitive cycles of political dysfunction that have resulted from conventional party politics we are all familiar with.
What will this approach help Ken do differently?
We all wish for Ghana to be like other developed nations. Which other candidate has the same level of exposure to what works in developed countries as Ken Agyapong?
We complain about job shortages. Which candidate has created more jobs than Ken?
We lament the high cost of import duties. Other than Ken, which candidate imports goods and understands these challenges first-hand?
We bemoan high production costs. Which candidate produces goods for export or local consumption and understands these struggles? Only Ken does.
We complain about ex-gratia, monies paid out every four years. Who else could we trust to genuinely commit to ending these pay-outs?
We want constitutional changes. Whose promises can we trust more than Kens?
All parties have criticized the number of ministers at one point, yet each has increased the number when in power. What makes us think this will change? Ken will not be obliged to give jobs to the boys. The national purse will be secured.
Whether NPP or NDC, disregarding our challenges, the next two years will be the usual blame game politics. Ken will set the agenda straight right from day one.
Which past or present government truly delivered value for the money invested by our nation? Ken Agyapong has the potential to bring a much-needed shift, ensuring that public expenditures align more closely with those in the private sector, enhancing efficiency and transparency in how our national resources are utilized.
We have repeatedly appointed individuals for their loyalty and affiliation. Similar to how he employs competent people to work, Ken should apply the same rigorous standards to assemble a team of the most capable individuals to head and manage the various ministries.
Political manifestos have increasingly become generic to what the people must hear. Appointees often disregard them in their duties or, worse, do not know their existence. Ken Agyapong doesnt need a traditional manifesto; instead, he must set a clear agenda for each department and ministry. Prospective appointees would then be required to submit detailed action plans as part of their application to deliver real, measurable results for the office.
Despite substantial investments in the nations education, the frequent shifts in education policies with each government have hindered the consistent achievement of educational standards. We will need Ken to constitute a bipartisan and key stakeholder committee to develop a thought-through educational policy that cannot be discarded or altered by any single government without broad consensus.
Ghana faces a significant challenge with widespread indiscipline and lawlessness, leaving law-abiding citizens as victims. This lack of accountability and irresponsibility is at the heart of corrupt practices and abuses across many institutions. We grow with a mentality that the laws do not work. Rather than focusing on digitization and a 24-hour economy, Ken Agyapong must prioritize holding everyonefrom the top echelons of power to the grassrootsaccountable for their actions.
Why do we continue to repeat the same actions and yet expect different outcomes?
If you believe that this is what will propel Ghanas development and Ken has what it takes to get these done, then join the movement to get Ken to stand and compete.
Note this, Ken must not leave the NPP out of frustration or anger but because he is called to do so. This will ensure his allegiance remains with the people. While Ken may not be perfect, we can trust him to strive towards the promises he makes.
