The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Hon. Samuel Nartey George, has disclosed that security agencies have uncovered and dismantled several suspected cybercrime centres operating in parts of the Greater Accra Region.

In a post shared on his official Facebook page, the Minister revealed that intelligence gathered over the last 48 hours by the Cyber Security Authority (CSA) indicated that young men were being exploited and coerced by alleged kingpins to engage in cybercrime activities in East Legon Hills, Afienya, Kwabenya, Weija and Tuba.

Acting on the CSA-led intelligence, a joint security team comprising operatives from National Security Operations, the Cyber Security Authority, the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters and the Police SWAT Unit carried out coordinated operations at the identified locations on January 16 and 17, 2026.

The operations led to the arrest of nine Nigerian nationals suspected to be behind the cybercrime activities, while forty-four additional Nigerian nationals believed to be victims were rescued.
The victims were found in various apartments operating laptop computers under alleged coercion.
Searches conducted at the premises resulted in the retrieval of fifty-two (52) assorted mobile phones, sixty-two (62) laptop computers and two (2) pump-action guns.

In total, fifty-three (53) Nigerian nationals were arrested across the five locations, with East Legon Hills recording five arrests, Afienya eleven, Kwabenya ten, Weija ten and Tuba seventeen.
Hon. Samuel Nartey George stated that all arrested persons have been duly profiled and handed over to the Ghana Immigration Service for safekeeping and further investigations.
He cautioned foreign nationals invited to Ghana to verify claims made by fellow nationals who lure them into the country under false pretences.
He further noted that individuals arrested in previous similar operations have been profiled by the Ghana Immigration Service in collaboration with INTERPOL and successfully handed over to Nigerian law enforcement authorities at the Seme border, while others are currently facing prosecution before Ghanaian courts.
Reaffirming government’s commitment to safeguarding Ghana’s international cyber image, the Minister described the effort as non-negotiable and commended the Cyber Security Authority and partner law enforcement agencies for their professionalism and dedication.
