President of Ghana, H.E John Dramani Mahama, has expressed his deep appreciation to Sierra Leone’s President, Julius Maada Bio, for his show of solidarity during Ghana’s national period of mourning.

In a statement shared on his official Facebook page, President Mahama extended gratitude for President Bio’s presence and support, noting that it was not only on behalf of Sierra Leone but also represented the broader support of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

“Thank you, President Julius Maada Bio for your presence, show of support and commiseration on behalf of the people of Sierra Leone and the ECOWAS Community in our period of mourning,” Mahama wrote.

The visit by President Bio underscores the strong diplomatic and fraternal ties between Ghana and Sierra Leone, as well as the unity within the West African bloc in times of grief and loss.

The hashtag #GhanaMourns, which accompanied Mahama’s message, reflects the somber mood in the country following the recent events prompting the period of national mourning.
