The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Bosiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has declared that he will sacrifice for the elephant party to ensure they secure victory in the 2028 general elections.

Wontumi, who has officially declared his intention to contest the National Chairmanship position of the NPP, was categorical that he will do everything possible to give the party victory in 2028.

He was speaking to Rainbow Radio’s Boshyeba Afriyie on the sidelines at the party’s National Delegates Conference, which was held on Saturday, July 19, 2025.

When asked if he was going to contest the National Chairmanship position, he answered in the affirmative.

He noted that with his several years of political experience, from the grassroots through to the regional level and now seeking to contest as a national leader, he believes he wields all the needed skills and competence to manage the party as National Chairman.

The delegates on Saturday voted to approve an amendment to make the Chairman of the party leader at all times, whether the party is in government or opposition.

Chairman Wontumi was emphatic that he is the best person to steer the affairs of the party, unite their front, and return it to power in 2027.

“In life, you gather experience through higher learning and practical experience. I have moved from constituency chairman to regional chairman for three different terms. I have done my best, even in the face of challenges. I have the political experience and understand Ghanaian politics. As Chairman of the NPP, I am assuring the party that if God grants me this opportunity, Chairman Wontumi will sacrifice himself in ensuring that the NPP secures victory.”

He also refuted suggestions that his management of the region contributed to their defeat.

He stated that he was the only Regional Chairman who managed to secure more seats for the party compared to all the other chairpersons from the other regions.

“It is not true that I mismanaged the party and caused our defeat and made us lose some seats in the region,” he explained.

“When you go to Parliament today, you will discover that almost half of the MPs from the NPP are from the Ashanti Region. That was due to hard work and the intervention of God. The party is not only in the Ashanti Region; we have regional branches, but the Ashanti Region is the only region with over 40 seats. We had no seats in some of the regions, so no one can say I mismanaged the Ashanti Region.”
