The International Community for Learning and Social Spectrums (ICLASS), in collaboration with the Ashanti Regional Directorate of the Ghana Education Service (GES), has successfully organized a transformative one-day capacity-building workshop for over 500 teachers and educational administrators across the Ashanti Region.

Held on 5th September 2025 in Kumasi, the workshop brought together participants from public basic and senior high schools within the Kumasi Metropolis.

The event aimed to equip educators with contemporary pedagogical strategies, emphasizing technological integration, safeguarding, and inclusive education practices.

The workshop marked the inaugural edition of the Key Educational Enhancement Project (KEEP) 2025, a flagship initiative by ICLASS designed to revolutionize teaching and learning methodologies in Ghana.

The project is set to expand its reach across all 42 municipalities and districts in the Ashanti Region in subsequent phases.

Themed “Building Resilient Safeguards: Rebranding the Ghanaian Teacher Through Their Multiple Intelligences,” the workshop focused on reimagining the role of educators in the 21st century and retooling them for a rapidly evolving educational landscape.

Key Focus Areas Included:

  • Safeguarding as a Core Function: Strategies for building safer, more supportive, and thriving school communities.
  • Artificial Intelligence in Education: Understanding the interface between AI and the modern teaching profession.
  • Inclusive Learning Environments: Leveraging multiple intelligences to foster inclusive teaching and learning practices.

A notable highlight of the event was a masterclass on Artificial Intelligence in Education, which drew enthusiastic participation from both teachers and school administrators.

Featured Speakers:

  • Ivan Heathcote Fumador – Media Practitioner & Educationist
  • Akwasi Boateng Ossei – Business Manager, Whizy Digital Hub; Tech Enthusiast & Corporate Digital Trainer
  • Dr. Mrs. Marian Babah-Alargi – Educational Psychologist & Consultant
  • Dr. William K.A. Appiah – Ashanti Regional Director of Education

Representing the Regional Director of Education, Madam Judith Mensah-Panford, Head of Planning and Statistics, emphasized the importance of the workshop’s theme, describing it as “timely and profoundly significant.”

“The traditional one-size-fits-all approach to teaching is no longer sufficient. It is time to re-imagine who we are as teachers, what we do in our classrooms, and how we define success in learning,” she remarked.

In his address, Akwasi Boateng Ossei highlighted the critical role of artificial intelligence in education, calling for a deliberate national effort to integrate AI into Ghana’s teaching curriculum.

“AI is essential in today’s learning environment, yet many teachers remain under-resourced in this space,” he noted.

“If we do not equip educators with the right tools and understanding, students will misuse AI, leading to underwhelming academic outcomes. We risk producing learners who go to school but can’t deliver the right results.”

Mr. Ossei further appealed to technology experts and institutions to collaborate more actively with the education sector to bridge the digital knowledge gap among teachers.

The ICLASS-Keep 2025 initiative signals a new chapter in Ghana’s educational reform efforts—one that prioritizes innovation, inclusivity, and the professional development of the Ghanaian teacher.

“What we are promoting today is teachers being conscious of the multiple intelligences of children and identifying them through their lessons”, Dr. Mrs. Marian Babah-Alargi indicated in an interview with newsmen.

In her presentation at the workshop, she said teachers are maestros of symphonies, urging them to utilize their personalities to influence how they administer the curriculum.

This she indicated will make students “enjoy lessons taught by them and also make them come out the more through the various intelligences or smartness that they have.”
