Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has reiterated his readiness to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as its next National Chairman, pledging to be a hands-on leader focused on grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2028 general elections.

The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP made the remarks on Tuesday while engaging constituency organisers and their deputies in the region, as part of efforts to build support for his national chairmanship ambition.

According to Chairman Wontumi, the current political climate demands a National Chairman who embodies the party’s core values, understands its grassroots, and possesses the drive and experience to reclaim political power in 2028.

“I stand before you to assure the nation through you that I am ready to be a working National Chairman when given the mandate. This election is not for the books but for those who are tried and tested as grassroots working men; people who are popular and ready to work tirelessly for victory,” he stated.

The three-term Ashanti Regional Chairman emphasized that what the party and Ghanaians need at this stage is renewed hope, stressing that he is adequately prepared for the battle ahead.

He appealed to the organisers to support his bid, describing himself as “built for the task.”

Chairman Wontumi highlighted his long service to the party, from a two-term Constituency Chairman to an unprecedented three-term Regional Chairman, as evidence of his preparedness for national leadership.

He assured party faithful that he would not compromise on any decision that could diminish the party’s appeal to voters.

Outlining his leadership approach, he explained that his focus as National Chairman would be on the constituencies rather than remaining office-bound.

“As National Chairman, my work will be with the people at the constituencies. The General Secretary will manage affairs at the party headquarters, but my responsibility is to ensure that we mobilise every single vote needed for victory in 2028,” he said.

Chairman Wontumi also urged party members to assess him based on competence and performance rather than academic qualifications.

“Don’t judge me based on my certificate, but on my competency and what I can deliver for the growth of the party,” he added.

The response from the organisers was largely positive, with many expressing a desire for leadership that understands and connects with the grassroots. To them, Bernard Antwi Boasiako represents the kind of leader who has risen through the ranks and remains deeply connected to the base of the party.
