Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has reaffirmed the country’s commitment to reparatory justice and Pan-African unity following the 2025 Diaspora Summit.

In a statement shared on his official Facebook page, the minister said the summit demonstrated the enduring bond between Africans on the continent and in the diaspora, stressing that shared history and identity remain stronger than geographical separation.

According to Mr. Ablakwa, Ghana, under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama, is playing a leading role in advancing the global reparations agenda.

He noted that President Mahama, serving as the African Union’s Champion for Reparations, is expected to provide international leadership on issues of reparatory justice, restitution, and the dismantling of racial discrimination.

He further announced that Ghana plans to table a resolution at the United Nations in 2026, calling for the transatlantic slave trade to be formally declared the worst crime against humanity and an act of genocide.

The foreign affairs minister also emphasized that the reparations push will go hand in hand with domestic economic reforms.

He said the Mahama administration remains focused on taking greater control of Ghana’s natural resources, promoting value addition, and implementing economic transformation policies aimed at improving livelihoods.

Mr. Ablakwa concluded by calling for African unity, invoking the vision of Ghana’s first President, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, and reaffirming a collective resolve of “never again.”
