Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has reassured citizens that the Mahama Administration remains committed to protecting Ghanaian interests abroad amid reports of expanding United States visa sanctions and the introduction of visa bonds reportedly reaching up to $15,000 for some countries.

In a statement shared on his official Facebook page, the Foreign Affairs Minister said the government is closely monitoring the evolving situation and will continue to pursue a foreign policy that safeguards Ghanaians from undue disadvantage.

“As many more countries face US visa sanctions and $15,000 visa bonds, Ghanaians can be assured that the Mahama Administration will continue to pursue mutually beneficial foreign policy objectives that align with our strategic national interest and that ensures our citizens are not disadvantaged,” Mr. Ablakwa stated.

He emphasized the government’s commitment to proactive diplomacy and citizen-centered foreign relations, pledging continued engagement with international partners to protect the rights and mobility of Ghanaians.

“Trust us to keep fighting for you,” the minister added, concluding his message with the national pledge, “For God and Country.”
The statement comes at a time of growing concern among travelers and prospective migrants as several countries reportedly face stricter US visa requirements, raising questions about access, affordability, and fairness in global mobility.
