Former District Chief Executive for Amansie West, Hon. Nii Lartey Ollenu has been named 2024 Best Livestock farmer in Oforikrom Municipality.

He was awarded by the assembly on Friday, 8th November, 2024 as the Municipality was celebrating its version of the 40th National Farmers’ Day at Aprade.

A brand new fridge, knapsack sprayers, fertilizers, cutlasses, wellington boot, etc were given to him in recognition of his hard efforts in the field of agriculture.

NPP Parliamentary candidate for Oforikrom constituency, Hon. Mike Aidoo and traditional leaders witnessed the conferring of the above prestigious honor.

Addressing the media, Nii Lartey Ollenu thanked the assembly for recognizing his efforts.

He told newsmen that the above achievement was not attained on a silver platter but through innovation and inclusion of agriculture technology in his livestock farming.

He shared with newsmen that through the application of technology, he now generates biogas from the waste of poultry for domestic activities.

Addition to the above is the conversion of same into liquid fertilizer, which he gives to vegetable farmers.

Hon. Nii Lartey Ollenu said his passion for farming remains unabated, owing to the litany of economic gains it offers.

He described farming as a reliable alternative source of income and for that reson urged Ghanaian youth to embrace the profession and shun seeing farming as a profession of the uneducated.

As a former government official, he underscored policies and programs such as Planting for Foods and Jobs, Rearing for Food and Jobs, Planting for Export and Rural Development as interventions rolled out by the NPP-led government to support agriculture.

He therefore urged Ghanaian youth to opt for farming as a profession and harness all available opportunities that have been introduced by government.
