Former Member of Parliament for Tema West, Hon. Irene Nana Torshie Addo, has vehemently dismissed allegations claiming she suggested the Greater Accra Region refused to vote for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2024 elections because the Ashanti Region was favoured in the selection of the party’s running mate.

Speaking to journalists in Kumasi on Sunday, the former Deputy Ambassador described the allegations as “falsehoods” deliberately fabricated to smear her reputation and undermine her ongoing political activities.

Torshie Takes On Greater Accra Regional Chairman
Hon. Naa Torshie directed sharp criticism at the Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the NPP, Hon. Divine Agorhom, who recently issued a press statement appearing to endorse the allegations.

She accused the chairman of acting in bad faith and failing to verify the claims before making them public.
“The move by the chairman was backed by ill motive. As a party executive, he should have reached out to me to verify whether I ever made such comments before issuing a press statement,” she stated.
She condemned the statement, dated 22 November 2025, asserting that it was part of a broader plot by Agorhom and his associates to damage her public image.
“This is a fabrication. Divine Agorhom and his team are desperate over my campaign for Hon. Kennedy Agyapong. They are not happy with my campaign and want to do everything to tarnish my image.”
Says Allegations Are Baseless
Hon. Naa Torshie reiterated that she had never made any such remarks regarding voter behaviour in the Greater Accra Region.
“I have not said anything like that. I don’t know anything about that.”
She questioned why a regional chairman of the party would issue an official statement without offering her the opportunity to respond.
Recalls Her Service to the Party
The former MP, who has served the NPP in various capacities including Council Member, former MP for Tema East, and former Deputy Ambassador said her long-standing dedication to the party should have warranted fair treatment.
“Ideally, as someone they call ‘Regional Mama,’ the chairman should have sought my side of the issue before making such a statement.”
She called on the national party leadership to intervene, describing the action as inappropriate and damaging to internal cohesion.
“Issuing a press statement means you are not a good person. I condemn it and I believe the party hierarchy must take it up.”
Additional Allegations Addressed
Hon. Naa Torshie also referenced other rumours, including claims that she allegedly said Asantes struggle with English; an accusation she again dismissed as fabricated.
She argued that the increasing number of false claims against her indicates that her political activities, particularly her campaigning for Hon. Kennedy Agyapong, are unsettling some individuals within the party.
“The litany of allegations made against me shows that I am disturbing them, and this even encourages me to do more campaigning for Hon. Kennedy Agyapong.”
