The Member of Parliament for Asawase, Hon. Muntaka Mubarak, has lauded the medical professionals, volunteers, and community partners behind his annual Free Eyecare and Breast Cancer Screening Initiative, describing this year’s exercise as “historic” in both scale and impact.

In a statement shared on his official Facebook page, the MP revealed that the outreach screened more than 9,000 individuals across Greater Kumasi while facilitating the renewal of over 13,000 National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) cards.

He emphasized that the figures represent “real people, real families, and real stories of lives improved, hope restored, and health renewed.”

This year’s edition extended its services across 8 constituencies and 30 electoral areas, ensuring wide access to critical health support.

Screening Summary

6,656 people screened for various eye conditions

2,344 individuals examined for breast health

Breakdown of Medical Findings and Services

1,820 refraction cases recorded

631 cataract cases identified

308 glaucoma cases detected

1,049 reading glasses dispensed

117 mammograms conducted

13,019 NHIS renewals completed

Hon. Muntaka also announced that over 120 patients have already undergone successful cataract surgeries at the Agogo Presbyterian Hospital, with additional surgeries scheduled to begin tomorrow.

He attributed the success of the initiative to the exceptional commitment of the team, led by Dr. Kamil Mohammed, praising their professionalism and dedication to extending vital healthcare to underserved communities. The MP further expressed gratitude to traditional and religious leaders for their unwavering support throughout the program.

To acknowledge the team’s efforts, certificates were presented to all participating medical personnel.

Hon. Muntaka concluded with a message of unity and hope: “May we all be great together.”
