Hon. Haruna Iddrisu writes

I was honored to accept an invitation from the Minister for Higher Education, Hon. Prince Maele, and the President of the Republic of Botswana, His Excellency Mr. Duma Gideon Boko, to participate in the 2025 Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) PITSO.

The theme of the event was “Transformative TVET: A Driver for Enhanced Innovation, Employability, Social Mobility, and Entrepreneurship for Sustainable Economic Growth.” I had the privilege of speaking on “Global Practices in TVET: Reflections from Ghana.”

As the representative of my Ministry, I highlighted our focus on formulating national policies that promote equal accessibility and quality delivery across the entire education spectrum, from pre-tertiary to tertiary education.

Our goal is to develop an education system that fosters problem-solving, creativity, and the acquisition of critical skills through academic, technical, and vocational programs. This approach has yielded significant results, with TVET enrollment in Ghana increasing from approximately 42,000 students in 2018 to over 235,000 in the 2024 academic year.

Our Ministry has also implemented comprehensive and up-to-date TVET programs that are gender responsive and designed to foster stronger collaboration between training providers and private sector employers.

This approach has enhanced productivity and provided opportunities for individuals to acquire relevant skills. Furthermore, we have established a National TVET Qualifications Framework that allows individuals to have their prior learning experiences recognized and certified through the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) assessment process.
