The Minister for Food and Agriculture, Hon. Eric Opoku, has paid a historic visit to the Ashaiman Tulaku Livestock Market as part of government’s commitment to the implementation of the Livestock Development Project (LDP).

The visit, which was disclosed in a statement shared on the Minister’s official Facebook page, underscores government’s renewed focus on transforming Ghana’s livestock sector to enhance food security, job creation, and economic growth.

According to Hon. Opoku, the Livestock Development Project, once fully implemented, will prioritize increased meat and dairy production, particularly in cattle, piggery, and small ruminants farming.

The project will also introduce improved livestock breeds and establish capacity-building centers aimed at strengthening productivity and efficiency across the sector.

As part of immediate interventions to improve conditions at the market, the Minister facilitated the donation of streetlight bulbs to enhance safety and sanitation, as well as a mini dump waste truck to promote better hygiene and food safety standards.

These measures, he noted, form part of a broader strategy to modernize the market and support sustainable livestock production.

Hon. Opoku further assured market leadership and stakeholders of government’s unwavering support to make the livestock sector more profitable and attractive, with the ultimate goal of creating profitable opportunities and generating employment, particularly for the youth.

Leaders of the Ashaiman Tulaku Livestock Market expressed their gratitude to the Minister for what they described as a historic visit, welcoming the government’s commitment to addressing longstanding challenges within the sector.
