A free health screening exercise organized by Star Health Clinic at Kejetia Market on Saturday, 23rd August 2025, has unearthed deeply concerning insights into the state of women’s health in the area.

During the exercise, several women who participated in the routine health checks were discovered to be pregnant — a revelation that came as a surprise to them. In some instances, women were already three to six months into their pregnancies but were completely unaware of their condition.

“This is not just surprising, it’s worrying,” said Dr. Isaac Frimpong, a renowned fibroid specialist and CEO of Star Health Clinic. “It clearly highlights the urgent need for increased public education and more regular health check-ups, especially among women of reproductive age.”
A Broader Health Crisis

The situation goes beyond unexpected pregnancies. Dr. Frimpong revealed that since the inception of the free screening initiative, the clinic has observed a troubling trend: many women presenting with fibroids only seek medical help when the condition has reached advanced stages.

“We are seeing women come in with very severe cases of fibroids that could have been managed much earlier,” he said. “This is largely due to the fact that many people, especially women, do not prioritize regular health screenings.”
To address this gap, Star Health Clinic has launched a nationwide health screening campaign aimed at bringing healthcare directly to the people. The initiative includes free screenings for conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes, prostate issues, hepatitis, ovarian cysts, and more. Participants also benefit from free medical scans and lab tests using state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment.
Health Outreach on the Move
So far, the clinic’s health outreach program has made stops in Kasoa, Madina, and Kumasi, with plans to extend the campaign to Sunyani, Dormaa, Brekum, Tarkwa, and other key locations across the country.

“The ultimate goal,” Dr. Frimpong emphasized, “is to empower individuals with knowledge about their health status and prevent avoidable complications through early detection and treatment.”
