Ghana’s Minister for Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, has reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to transforming the nation’s education sector, highlighting key achievements while responding decisively to an emergency at a senior high school in the Ashanti Region.
In a statement posted on his official Facebook page, the Minister disclosed his participation in a week-long mid-year review session with the Parliamentary Select Committee on Education. The session, he noted, serves as a platform for agencies under the Ministry to present progress reports and outline persistent challenges across all levels—from Kindergarten to Higher Education.
“I used the opportunity to brief the Committee on the overall state of the sector, highlighting major strides made in expanding access, improving infrastructure, enhancing teacher development, promoting STEM and TVET, and aligning our educational outcomes with national development goals,” Hon. Iddrisu wrote.
Describing the review sessions as more than a statutory formality, the Minister emphasized their role in galvanizing collective efforts toward delivering equitable and high-quality education for every Ghanaian child.
In a related development, the Minister visited Oyoko Methodist Senior High School following a fire outbreak that damaged sections of the school’s facilities on Monday night. After meeting with school authorities, Hon. Iddrisu pledged the Ministry’s immediate support and a thorough assessment of the damage.
“Our response will be swift and strategic,” he assured. “Education is the bedrock of Ghana’s future, and we will continue to lead with purpose, compassion, and strategic focus.”
The Education Ministry’s mid-year review comes at a pivotal time, as Ghana intensifies efforts to modernize its education system, equip students with relevant 21st-century skills, and close the gap between academic training and job market needs.
