HART Adventist Hospital has officially launched its 10th anniversary celebration with a call for continued commitment to quality healthcare and expanded services for residents within the municipality and beyond.

The launch event, held at the Ahinsan Seventh-day Adventist Church, was on the theme “A Decade of Faith and Healing: Building Tomorrow’s Hope.”

Speaking at the ceremony, the Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Kwabena Owusu Asante, highlighted the institution’s remarkable growth and impact over the past decade.

According to him, the anniversary offers an opportunity for stakeholders to reflect on the hospital’s journey, celebrate achievements and renew their commitment to improving healthcare delivery in the community.

Dr. Owusu Asante explained that the hospital was established through the vision and sacrifice of the leadership of the South Central Ghana Conference of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, which relocated its headquarters to convert the building into a healthcare facility to serve residents of the municipality and surrounding communities.
The hospital officially began operations on July 1, 2016.
Despite its modest beginnings, he noted that the hospital’s pioneering staff demonstrated exceptional dedication, with some personally contributing resources to support patient care during the early stages of operations.
Dr. Owusu Asante also highlighted key decisions that shaped the hospital’s development, including the establishment of a dialysis centre through collaboration with the Cedi Investment Group.
The facility became one of the first dialysis units within a public health institution in the Ashanti Region, providing more affordable renal care services.
He further disclosed that the hospital adopted a completely paperless client management system in 2016, describing it as a bold and innovative step at the time.
Providing an overview of the hospital’s performance, Dr. Owusu Asante revealed that outpatient attendance grew significantly from 976 patients during the second half of 2016 to 37,514 in 2025.
In total, about 221,852 patients have received outpatient care at the hospital over the past 10 years.
Admissions have also increased from 83 in 2016 to 3,784 by the end of 2025, bringing the total number of inpatients treated over the decade to 25,847.
In maternal healthcare services, more than 35,590 women have attended antenatal care at the hospital, while 3,555 deliveries have been recorded within the same period.
The hospital has also conducted over 1,500 major surgeries and organized numerous community outreach programmes, health education campaigns and medical screening exercises that have benefited thousands of residents.
Dr. Owusu Asante noted that the hospital played a crucial role during the COVID-19 pandemic, providing continuous healthcare services to residents in the municipality and nearby communities.
He added that the hospital has expanded its range of services to include dental care, ear, nose and throat services, eye care as well as specialist services in obstetrics and gynaecology, general surgery and family medicine.
On infrastructure development, the Medical Director stated that the hospital increased its bed capacity from the initial 22 beds to 29 beds in 2019, with ongoing expansion works expected to increase capacity to 80 beds.
He indicated that the first phase of the expansion project is more than 90 percent complete, with parts of the new building already in use, while the second phase is expected to be completed in the second quarter of the year.
The dialysis centre is also being upgraded and relocated to accommodate a full renal clinic, while the hospital’s diagnostic capacity has expanded to include electrocardiography, ultrasound scanning, cardiotocography and advanced laboratory testing.
Dr. Owusu Asante acknowledged the hospital’s strategic partnerships with the Ghana Adventist Health Service, the Christian Health Association of Ghana, the Asokwa Municipal Health Directorate and regulatory bodies including the National Health Insurance Authority and the Health Facilities Regulatory Agency.
Despite the progress made, he pointed out several challenges facing the hospital, including limited space for expansion, the lack of transportation such as an ambulance and official vehicle, and difficulty securing accommodation for staff required for emergency services.
He also raised concerns about the unpleasant odour from a nearby open drain, which occasionally affects patients and staff, noting that discussions are ongoing with the relevant authorities to address the situation.
Looking ahead, Dr. Owusu Asante said the hospital aims to develop into a centre of excellence offering specialist and emergency care while also serving as a training hub for healthcare professionals.
He envisioned a future facility with expanded specialist services, improved diagnostic capabilities and a healing environment centred on holistic and patient-focused care.

President of the conference, Pastor Philip Amponsah Mensah, commended the foresight of the church’s former leadership for transforming the conference headquarters into a healthcare facility.
He described the decision as a bold step of faith and said over the past decade the hospital has not only treated illnesses but also restored hope to many individuals and families.
Pastor Mensah encouraged management and staff to strengthen excellence, maintain stability and continue to uphold high professional standards while embracing innovation in healthcare delivery.

Delivering the keynote address, Dr. James Antwi praised the dedication of the hospital’s staff and the impact they have made within the facility’s catchment area.
He also acknowledged the contributions of board members and other stakeholders whose support has contributed to the hospital’s growth.
Dr. Antwi further expressed appreciation to residents of the municipality for their continued confidence in the hospital’s services and urged them to maintain their trust in the facility.
Given the hospital’s rapid growth, he appealed to the leadership of the Seventh-day Adventist Church to make additional land available to support further expansion.

Also present at the event was the Asokwa Municipal Chief Executive, Amoh Kamel, who commended the hospital’s staff for their dedication to service.
Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the event, he noted that the hospital’s 24-hour healthcare services have greatly benefited residents in the municipality.
He also recalled a time when the hospital continued to provide healthcare services to the community even when other facilities were on strike.
The Municipal Chief Executive further highlighted the employment opportunities the hospital has created for many young people in the municipality.
Hon. Kamel assured the hospital’s management of the assembly’s readiness to support the facility whenever the need arises, while urging management and staff to continue introducing innovative healthcare solutions to better serve the community.
The anniversary celebrations will feature a series of activities throughout the year, culminating in a grand commemoration on July 30.
