Ghana’s hardworking Minister for Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations, Hon. Samuel Nartey George, has announced a sweeping legislative reform agenda aimed at modernising Ghana’s digital infrastructure and legal framework.

The announcement was made in a statement shared on his official Facebook page, highlighting the government’s commitment to repositioning the nation’s digital landscape under President John Dramani Mahama’s #ResetAgenda.

According to the Minister, the Ministry is currently working on 15 new pieces of legislation that will align the country’s outdated IT laws; some of which are more than two decades old with current and emerging technological realities.
“When I took over the office, I quickly realised that with some of our IT legislation being over 20 years old, the digitalisation drive of the past lacked the focus and necessary tools for today’s world,” Hon. George stated.

He revealed that stakeholder consultations have already commenced on two of the draft legislations, and the Ministry has issued a formal call for input on the remaining 13. Describing the initiative as the “single largest exercise of its kind in the history of the Ministry,” the Minister emphasized the collaborative approach being adopted to ensure broad-based input and consensus.
All 15 draft legislations are now available for public access and download on the official websites of the Ministry and its affiliated agencies, as part of efforts to ensure transparency and encourage civic participation.
“This is part of our legacy mission to realign and position the Ministry not only for today but for the foreseeable future,” Hon. George added. “We will work to establish the digital foundations for our collective benefit.”
The announcement marks a significant step in the government’s broader efforts to revitalise the country’s digital ecosystem, ensuring it is fit-for-purpose in an increasingly tech-driven global economy.
