The Mayor of Accra, Hon. Michael Kpakpo Allotey, has honoured two long-serving staff of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) for their integrity, dedication, and positive impact on the institution.

The recognition was bestowed on Thursday, 18 December, during a staff durbar organised by the Assembly.

The honourees were Gabriel Otokunor, popularly known as “O.T.”, and Gideon Lamptey, affectionately called “Adodo”.
Addressing staff at the event, the Mayor described it as a “profound blessing” to witness positive transformation in the lives of people close to him.

He noted that while some individuals’ abilities may not always be immediately apparent, they often possess deep sensitivity and exceptional value to the organisation.
Hon. Allotey first commended his driver, Gabriel Otokunor, for his consistent counsel and support, describing his frequent admonitions as a genuine expression of care. He said O.T.’s advice had been particularly helpful during his first year in office.

The Mayor highlighted O.T.’s journey within the Assembly, noting that he began his career as a dispatch rider and, through hard work and dedication, rose to become the Mayor’s driver.
He described the progression as inspiring and a clear example of commitment being rewarded.
The Mayor also praised Gideon Lamptey, a speech and hearing-impaired staff member, for his long and dedicated service to the Assembly. He described Adodo as an honest and dependable officer whose integrity made him a trusted source of accurate information on happenings within the Central Business District (CBD).
According to the Mayor, when he required a true assessment of conditions in the CBD, he relied on Adodo, noting that while others might present embellished reports, Adodo consistently conveyed the unvarnished truth.
Hon. Allotey further observed that although Adodo could neither speak nor hear, he possessed exceptional observational skills and an ability to clearly communicate what was happening within communities. He described him as his most reliable source of “ground truth”.
In recognition of Adodo’s integrity, dedication, and unique abilities, the Mayor announced his promotion to the rank of Senior Security Guard.
