The Mayor of Accra, Hon. Michael Kpakpo Allotey, has officially received the prestigious Gbese Mantse Homowo Peace Cup ahead of this year’s Homowo festivities, calling on residents to unite in peace and proudly celebrate Ga traditions.

The symbolic trophy, presented at the Accra City Hall on Wednesday, marks the kickoff of a sports initiative spearheaded by His Royal Majesty Nii Ayi-Bonte II, the Gbese Mantse.

The tournament, a key feature of the Homowo celebrations, aims to foster peace, community spirit, and promote the rich cultural heritage of the Ga people through football.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mayor Allotey lauded the initiative, emphasizing the critical role of peace in the capital’s growth.

“We all need peace, because without peace, we cannot run Accra. Without peace, nobody can go and run a business,” the Mayor stated.

He also commended the Gbese Mantse for his visionary leadership, noting that using sports to unify communities and celebrate culture sets a powerful example—especially for the youth.

“The Ga land belongs to the Ga people,” he added, “and it is inspiring to see our traditional leaders promoting unity and pride through peaceful celebrations.”

The Homowo Peace Cup promises to be more than just a football event—it’s a rallying call for cultural pride, harmony, and community development in the heart of Accra.
