As the Mayor of Banjul, it is my honor to extend heartfelt greetings to the people of our beloved city and the entire Muslim Ummah on the solemn occasion of the Day of Ashura.
The Day of Ashura, observed on the 10th of Muharram, holds profound significance for Muslims around the world. It is a time of reflection, remembrance, and unity. On this sacred day, we remember the sacrifices made by Prophet Musa (Moses) and the people of Bani Israel, and the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (AS) at the Battle of Karbala. These historical events remind us of the enduring values of justice, faith, and resilience.
As we observe this day, let us come together in the spirit of peace and solidarity, embracing the teachings of compassion and charity that are at the heart of Islam. Let us also take this opportunity to pray for the well-being of our community, our nation, and the world.
May this Ashura bring blessings, peace, and prosperity to all.
