The piloting of GreenvetAfrica project in Ghana by Whizzy Innovation Hub and Ramseyer Vocational Technical Institute has succeded in training 63 youth in Ashanti region.
A graduation ceremony was held for them on Thursday, 15th August, 2024, after they completed 3 months training on Green Waste Management and Entrepreneurship.
Among the courses which were taken by the graduans in the Green Waste Management programme are;
- Safety in waste management industry
- Mechanical Measurement Technique for Waste Management Machines
- Mechanical Drives in Waste Management Equipment and Machinery
- Man and the Environment
- Waste Management and the Waste Management Hierarchy
- Recycling
- Hydraulic Systems in Green Waste Management process
- Plastic waste management
- Organic waste management among others.
Certificates of completion were awarded to them to certify their successful completion of the training.
Their graduation marked a historic milestone, as the Greenvet Africa project is the first of it’s kind in the TVET sector in Sub-saharan Africa, focusing on green waste management in Ghana and Nigeria.
Chairing the occasion, Accountant for Ramseyer Vocational Technical Institute, Mr. Charles Asante said aside equipping learners with essential technical skills, the project positions them at the forefront of the sustainable development in the region and Ghana by extension.
He charged the graduans to explore the vast opportunities within the waste management sector.
“By focusing your diverse backgrounds with a commitment to environmental stewardship, you have the power to create innovative businesses that not only thrive economically but also contribute to the well-being of our planet.
Wether it is through engineering solutions that reduce waste , fashion that embraces upcycling, construction that prioritizes sustainable materials, or catering that minimizes food waste , the possibilities are endless”.
Managing Partner for Whizzy Innovation Hub, Mr. Tweneboah Korankye said he is hopeful that the training acquired through the project will enhance trainees’ opportunities for job.
He therefore urged them to take advantage of the skills and make good use of them in any job they find themselves.
Speaking to newsmen on the sidelines of the event, Principal for Ramseyer Vocational Technical Institute, Mr. Anthony Sarkodie Amankwah also admonished the graduans to monetize what they have learnt.
He also urged them to be innovative and creative enough to manage waste and make money out of it.
