In a decisive move to support cocoa farmers and respond to recent fluctuations in the international foreign exchange markets, the Government of Ghana has announced a significant increase in the producer price of cocoa for the 2025/26 crop season.

At an emergency meeting convened this morning by the Cocoa Producer Price Review Committee (CPPRC), chaired by the Minister for Finance, Hon. Dr. Ato Forson, the producer price was raised from GHS 3,228.75 to GHS 3,625 per bag.

This represents an increase of nearly GHS 400 per bag; a move expected to boost income for thousands of cocoa farmers across the country.

Speaking at the announcement, Dr. Forson emphasized the government’s continued commitment to the welfare of cocoa farmers, describing the price hike as a “big step in safeguarding livelihoods and supporting Ghana’s agricultural backbone.”

In addition to the new pricing, the Minister announced enhanced support programs through COCOBOD. These include the intensified free distribution of fertilisers, insecticides, fungicides, and spraying machines to improve productivity and crop health.

Significantly, the government also revealed plans to launch a new tertiary education scholarship scheme for the children of cocoa farmers, set to begin in the 2026/27 academic year. This initiative is aimed at empowering farming families through education and breaking cycles of rural poverty.

The announcement has been widely welcomed as a major win for farmers, especially as Ghana continues to navigate a challenging global economic environment. The move is also expected to strengthen farmer morale and sustain cocoa production, a critical sector in Ghana’s economy.
