The Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations is engaging technology partners on a large-scale training programme aimed at equipping Ghanaian youth with critical digital skills for the global economy.

In a meeting with Jörn Halsinger – Chief Executive Officer, Christian Walczak – Chief Financial Officer and Emily Okine – Office Manager in charge of Corporate Affairs of Code Raccoon Ltd Company, discussions focused on a proposal to train 350,000 young people in basic coding through a three-month programme, and in software development annually.

The training will focus on in-demand skills such as Python and JavaScript programming, with additional modules on artificial intelligence and cybersecurity.

The company confirmed that the training curriculum is already developed, has been used in Berlin for workforce development, and will be accredited locally through National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA), with plans to secure international certification from leading European tech firms.

This dual certification will enhance graduates’ competitiveness for both local opportunities and remote international work.

The Minister emphasised the importance of international accreditation, noting: “It’s not just about training, but ensuring our youth are employable globally. Having certification that international firms can recognise makes a huge difference.”

The partners disclosed that they will invest €2 million into content development and deployment systems. They are seeking an additional €2 million in co-funding from their business partners, while requesting the Ghanaian government’s support through an MoU to strengthen the public-private partnership.

The Minister welcomed the proposal, encouraging the team to finalise the certification framework and submit a detailed concept note. Once funding is secured, the programme could be rolled out as early as next year.

“This initiative aligns with our national vision of creating a digital workforce ready for the opportunities of the AI-driven economy. With the right partnerships, we can empower our young people with the skills to thrive locally and internationally,” the Minister affirmed.
