GNECC Welcomes the Reinstatement of PTAs and Calls for Broader Education Reforms

The Ghana National Education Campaign Coalition (GNECC) welcomes the recent announcement by the Minister of Education, Honorable Haruna Iddrisu, regarding the reinstatement of Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) in public schools. This initiative is a significant step towards enhancing collaboration between parents and educators, ultimately improving student learning outcomes across the country.

The reintroduction of PTAs is expected to foster community involvement in education, addressing critical issues such as infrastructure development, student discipline, and academic performance. GNECC believes that active participation from parents is essential in shaping policies that affect their children’s education and ensuring that schools are equipped to provide quality learning environments.

While we commend this move, GNECC urges the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service (GES) to ensure that the operational guidelines for PTAs are inclusive and promote transparency. It is crucial that all stakeholders parents, teachers, and school administrators work collaboratively to create an educational framework that prioritizes the needs of students.

Additionally, GNECC calls for ongoing dialogue between the Ministry of Education and PTAs to address any concerns regarding the governance and financial management of these associations. We emphasize that PTAs should operate as partners in education rather than as rivals to school management.

Considering these developments, GNECC remains committed to advocating for policies that ensure equitable access to quality education for all Ghanaian children. We look forward to engaging with the Ministry and other stakeholders in this vital process.
