Ghana’s Minister for Food and Agriculture, Hon. Eric Opoku, has been honoured with the prestigious Honorary Ambassador of Agenda 2063 title by the Office of the Special Envoy to the African Union. The announcement was made on Friday, August 1, via the Minister’s official Facebook page.

The recognition highlights Ghana’s significant strides in agricultural transformation and its growing role in ensuring food security across the African continent. The Agenda 2063 initiative, championed by the African Union, is a strategic framework aimed at delivering inclusive and sustainable development by the year 2063.

Hon. Opoku, in his statement, emphasized that the award is not just a personal achievement but a symbol of the collective effort of Ghana’s farming communities, agricultural policymakers, and other key stakeholders.

“This award is not just a personal honour, but a recognition of the collective effort of all Ghanaian farmers, policymakers, and stakeholders working tirelessly to transform our agriculture,” he said.

Under Hon. Opoku’s leadership, Ghana has implemented bold reforms to improve food production, increase farmer support, and modernize agricultural practices—efforts that have received praise both locally and internationally.

The AU honour further cements Ghana’s position as a rising leader in Africa’s food systems transformation and aligns with the broader continental vision of self-sufficiency, sustainable agriculture, and shared prosperity.
