According to the report by Adomonline, Former President Nana Akufo-Addo has said that Ghanaians made a mistake by voting for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the last election, thinking they were punishing him.
According to him, he had already served his two terms as president and was not on the ballot, so their decision did not affect him personally.
Speaking at a public gathering, Akufo-Addo said, “Some people thought they were punishing me by voting for the NDC. But let me remind them, I served my two terms. I completed my time as president. So, who is suffering now?”
Many Ghanaians have expressed disappointment over the current economic situation, with high inflation, job losses, and a rising cost of living.
Some who voted for the NDC now say they regret their decision.
Yaw Mensah, a taxi driver in Kumasi, admitted,
“I voted for change because I thought things would get better. But now, fuel prices are too high, and customers are complaining. Life is harder than before.”
Similarly, Abena Owusu, a market woman in Accra, said,
“I believed the promises they made, but now I see it was all talk. Things are worse. If I had known, I would have thought twice before voting.”
The former president also defended his achievements while in office.
He said that under his leadership, Ghana saw major development, including improvements in education, roads, and healthcare.
“We brought Free SHS to give children a better future. We worked hard to build roads and improve healthcare. We had challenges, but we did our best for the country,” Akufo-Addo said.
He also claimed that the current economic difficulties are due to poor management by the NDC government.
“Leadership is about making the right choices. If you make the wrong ones, the people suffer,” he added.
