Ghana has signed a new visa waiver agreement with Antigua and Barbuda, marking another step forward in the country’s efforts to strengthen international mobility and diplomatic relations. The agreement was signed on the sidelines of the ongoing United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, who announced the development via his official Facebook page, expressed gratitude to his counterpart, H.E. E.P. Chet Greene—Antigua and Barbuda’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Trade and Barbuda Affairs—for his instrumental role in making the deal possible.

“This is the 10th Visa Waiver Agreement secured for Ghanaians since assuming office as Foreign Minister,” Ablakwa noted, highlighting the growing global acceptance of the Ghanaian passport.

He emphasized that the Mahama administration remains committed to “adding more value to the Ghanaian Passport, projecting our image in the comity of nations and enhancing the travel experience of Ghanaians.” The Foreign Minister further underscored the significance of the agreement in promoting trade, tourism, and cultural ties, particularly with the Caribbean.

The move is expected to simplify travel procedures for citizens of both nations, deepening people-to-people connections and opening new doors for bilateral cooperation.

“For God and Country ,” Ablakwa concluded.

The agreement adds to Ghana’s expanding portfolio of visa waiver arrangements as the country works to improve its global mobility score and strengthen diplomatic relations across continents.
