Speaking during a working visit to Aflao alongside the Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Tong Defa, Hon. Ablakwa revealed that the funds will be used to construct an ultramodern market complex with ancillary facilities aimed at transforming the historic trading enclave into a regional commercial hub.

“I was in the beautiful Volta Region city of Aflao yesterday with the Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, His Excellency Tong Defa to inspect land earmarked for the ultramodern market with ancillary facilities,” the Minister shared.
Hon. Ablakwa expressed his deep appreciation to the Aflao Traditional Council, led by Togbui Adjongaga Amenya Fiti V, for allocating 159 acres of land for the project. He also extended gratitude to Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie, Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts and Member of Parliament for Ketu South, as well as other local leaders and residents, for their support and hospitality.

The market project, which was originally pledged by former President John Dramani Mahama, is expected to significantly enhance regional trade under the ECOWAS framework and align with the broader goals of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). The initiative is also anticipated to generate substantial employment and stimulate local economic development.
“President Mahama is a leader who keeps his promise,” Hon. Ablakwa stated. “This non-refundable gift from the government and people of China is another significant milestone in our outstanding Ghana-China relations.”
Construction of the market is expected to begin in the coming months, marking a new chapter in the long-standing partnership between Ghana and China.
