Ghana has officially launched its National Energy Compact under the ambitious Mission 300 initiative, marking a significant step toward universal access to clean and affordable energy. The announcement was made during a high-level event at the Bloomberg Philanthropies Global Forum, held on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly.

The launch was spearheaded by H.E. President John Dramani Mahama, in collaboration with the World Bank, and witnessed by global energy leaders and development partners. The National Energy Compact outlines Ghana’s strategic roadmap to transform its energy sector and improve access for all citizens.
The Compact sets out four core objectives:

1. Boost renewable energy: Increase the share of renewables in the national energy mix from the current 4% to 10% by 2026, and 30% by 2030.
2. Attract energy investments: Mobilize financing to expand energy access and enhance infrastructure across the country.
3. Promote clean cooking solutions: Reduce dependence on traditional fuels through cleaner, safer alternatives.
4. Stimulate economic development: Leverage energy access to drive job creation and enhance productivity, particularly in rural and underserved communities.

Speaking at the launch, President Mahama emphasized the central role of energy in national development:
“Ghana believes universal energy access is essential for empowering businesses, reducing poverty, and creating equal opportunities,” he stated.
The Mission 300 initiative, backed by the World Bank Group, African Development Bank, Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL), and the Rockefeller Foundation aims to connect 300 million people across Africa to electricity by 2030.
Ghana’s commitment positions it as a leading player in the continent-wide drive to expand sustainable energy access.
The Minister for Energy, Hon. John Abdulai Jinapor, shared the announcement on his official Facebook page, reaffirming the government’s dedication to building a resilient and inclusive energy future.
The launch underscores Ghana’s alignment with global sustainability goals, particularly SDG 7, which targets universal access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy by 2030.
