The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Hon. Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, on Thursday, 11th December 2025 led the Parliamentary Select Committee on Gender, Children and Social Welfare on a joint monitoring exercise of the School Feeding Programme at two beneficiary schools; Ayi Mensah Basic School in the Greater Accra Region and Peduase Methodist Basic School in the Eastern Region.

The visit formed part of efforts by the Ministry to validate field reports, engage beneficiaries directly, and ensure that government’s investment in social protection interventions is producing the expected results.

Addressing pupils and staff at both schools, Dr. Lartey underscored the importance of the School Feeding Programme in boosting school enrollment, improving retention, and enhancing learning outcomes.

She noted that routine monitoring enables government to identify challenges early, gather feedback from key stakeholders, and improve the quality and nutritional value of meals provided to pupils.

In his remarks, Hon. Dominic Ayine, Committee Member and Minister for Justice and Attorney General, encouraged pupils to appreciate the support offered through the programme and to focus on their academic development.

He assured them of government’s broader commitment to improving school infrastructure in order to create conducive teaching and learning environments.

Speaking to the media, Dr. Lartey emphasized that continuous nationwide monitoring conducted by ministry officials, national coordinators, regional teams, and district focal persons has contributed to significant improvements in implementation.

She further revealed that the Ministry is integrating basic table manners and hygiene education into the programme to instill lifelong positive habits among young learners.

The Parliamentary Committee expressed satisfaction with the quality of meals served, the cooperation between caterers and school authorities, and the overall management of the feeding programme at both schools.

The monitoring exercise forms part of government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen social protection systems and ensure that children across the country benefit fully from interventions designed to support their well-being and academic success.
