Mayor for Banjul, the capital city of Gambia, Rohey Malick Lowe hosted officials of the government of the Gambia and partners at his office for the official signing ceremony between the Gambia Ports Authority, Gambia Ferry Services and Damen shipyard for the construction of two new ferries.
The historic engagement was presided over by the Minister of Transport, Works and Infrastructure, Hon. Ebrima Sillah.
Also in attendance were the ministers of Trade and Information, Hon. Dr. Ismaila Ceesay, Hon. Baboucarr O. Joof, chief of staff office of the president, Hon. Mod. K. Ceesay, senior management of GPA and GFS, as well as a cross section of society, notably, BCC Deputy Mayor, National Assembly members, chiefs and Alkalos of North Bank Region.
“As Mayor of Banjul, i take immense pride in hosting this historic event that marked the signing of an agreement which seeks to end the ongoing ferry crisis, thereby improving movement of people and goods between Banjul and Barra. I also seized the opportunity to stress the urgent need to address the ferry crisis and sympathized with members of the public particular the people of NBR whose lives have been affected by the ongoing ferry crisis.
Meanwhile, I also acknowledged government’s drive to finding a lasting solution to the ferry problem by procuring two new ferries. On behalf of the people of Banjul, I once more reiterate our gratitude to central government for giving us the honor to host this important event”, she indicated on her official Facebook page.
