Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has described the ongoing AU-EU Summit in Luanda, Angola, as a defining moment for relations between Africa and Europe.

In a statement shared on his official Facebook page, the minister commended Vice President Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, who is leading Ghana’s delegation, for championing the continent’s call for more equitable engagement with Europe.

According to Ablakwa, although Europe remains Africa’s largest trading partner, African leaders are united in demanding improved terms within the partnership.

He emphasized that the message resonating strongly at the summit is that Africa is not seeking sympathy but equality. “Africa does not seek pity, we demand parity,” he noted.

The minister outlined Africa’s vision for a redefined cooperation framework—one that prioritizes value addition to the continent’s natural resources, accelerates industrial transformation, and creates meaningful opportunities for Africa’s rapidly growing youth population.

He further stressed that a stronger AU-EU relationship must also focus on enhancing security by resolving conflicts on both continents, countering extremism, and rejecting all forms of proxy warfare.

Ablakwa expressed optimism about the direction of discussions in Luanda, stating that both continents are committed to co-creating a reformed AU-EU partnership model capable of delivering “tangible results” for their citizens.

The AU-EU Summit continues as leaders deliberate on trade, security, governance, and sustainable development, with heightened expectations for a more balanced and mutually beneficial partnership structure.
