Artisans at Suame Magazine (Zone 8) are saddened by an order from traditional leaders of Tafo, demanding their immediate eviction from the land on which they operate.
Premised on the economic havoc the order may incur on their business, the artisans who have been operating on the land for decades are pleading on the latter to permit their continual stay on the land, subject to flexible terms and conditions as a way of regulation.
Addressing the media on Wednesday, Ashanti Regional Organiser for Ghana Association of Garages, Zone 8, Iddrisu Abdulai a.k.a “Iddi” lamented that their eviction will displace over 11,000 artisans, impacting their livelihoods and potentially leading to significant economic hardship in the region.
Chairman Iddi admitted that the land on which they operate is within the jurisdiction of the Chief of Tafo, “and for that reason can’t litigate with him on this matter.
We are therefore appealing to him to “allow us to continue with our business on the land under conditions like monthly payment of revenue.”
We apologize for whatever went wrong in the past.”
Adding his voice, the Ashanti regional Chairman for Ghana Association of Garages, Alhaji Lukman Mohammed Nuhu
called on authorities to engage the artisans on the matter for a peaceful resolution.
