In a strong signal of the government’s renewed commitment to empowering Ghana’s agricultural sector, Hon. Eric Opoku, Minister for Food and Agriculture, has announced the disbursement of GH¢1.6 million in cash awards to top-performing farmers across the country.

The initiative, which took place at the Ministry’s headquarters, forms part of broader efforts to recognize excellence in farming and incentivize innovation in agriculture.

According to the Minister’s official Facebook post, the 2024 Overall National Best Farmer, Nana Owusu Achiaw, received GH¢1 million — a historic cash prize aimed at celebrating hard work and transforming farming into a viable economic opportunity.

Three other farmers were each awarded GH¢200,000, bringing the total disbursement to GH¢1.6 million.
“This is not just a reward — it’s a statement,” said Hon. Opoku. “We are celebrating those who feed the nation and drive its economic backbone. Let us continue to work together to celebrate and elevate the vital contributions to Ghana’s development.”

The move has been welcomed by stakeholders as a bold step toward modernizing agriculture and repositioning it as a cornerstone of Ghana’s development strategy.
