Hon. Eric Opoku, Minister for Agriculture, has reiterated the crucial role of women in driving Ghana’s agricultural transformation.

Speaking at the 2025 Annual General Meeting and Induction Ceremony of the Ghana Federation of Agricultural and Fishery Associations for Women (GAFAFAW) held in Accra yesterday, the Minister emphasized that the nation’s Agricultural Transformation Agenda cannot succeed without the active participation and leadership of women.

“The transformation we envision in agriculture will not be possible if we sideline women,” Hon. Opoku stated. “Women are not just participants—they are leaders, innovators, and the backbone of our rural economies.”

The event, held under the theme “Rooted in Experience, Rising in Leadership: Rural Women at the Heart of Agricultural Transformation,” brought together women farmers, fishers, policymakers, and development partners.

The gathering served as a platform to recognize the contributions of rural women and to call for stronger representation and leadership roles for them within the sector.

Participants shared insights on the challenges facing women in agriculture, including limited access to land, finance, and technology, while also highlighting success stories of female-led agricultural initiatives across the country.
Hon. Opoku’s remarks, which were shared on his official Facebook page, have since drawn positive attention from stakeholders in the agricultural sector, many of whom echoed the call for gender equity as a driver of sustainable development.
GAFAFAW continues to advocate for policies and programs that empower rural women and integrate their voices into national and local agricultural planning processes.
The organization also used the occasion to induct new members and reaffirm its commitment to inclusive agricultural growth.
