The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Hon. John Abdulai Jinapor, on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, paid a working visit to the Bui Power Authority (BPA) as part of his ongoing engagements with agencies under the Ministry of Energy.
The visit aimed to strengthen institutional collaboration and promote informed, forward-thinking policy decisions at the national level.

The Minister was warmly received by the Chief Executive Officer of BPA, Ing. Kow Eduakwa Sam, along with the management team.

During the visit, Hon. Jinapor praised BPA’s critical contribution to national grid stability, especially during the recent gas pipeline maintenance period.

Highlighting BPA’s growing role in Ghana’s clean energy transition, the Minister commended ongoing efforts in solar power development and urged continued investment in battery storage systems to ensure maximum utilization of renewable energy.

Touching on the proposed merger between BPA and the Volta River Authority (VRA), Hon. Jinapor assured staff that their welfare remains a top priority. He emphasized that any structural changes would be guided by transparency, extensive stakeholder consultations, and a shared commitment to national development.
Addressing financial challenges in the power sector, the Minister acknowledged the Electricity Company of Ghana’s (ECG) indebtedness to BPA and other power producers.
He announced that ECG’s operational accounts have now been realigned to facilitate the cash waterfall payment system—a major step toward improved financial sustainability in the energy sector.
Furthermore, he revealed that all State-Owned Enterprises will soon be transitioned onto prepaid metering systems to enhance payment compliance and reduce revenue losses.
The Minister was accompanied by senior officials from the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition.
