Ghana’s Minister for Energy, Hon. John Abdulai Jinapor, has reaffirmed the country’s commitment to a sustainable energy future at the Seventh Meeting of the International Solar Alliance (ISA) Regional Committee for the Africa Region, held in Accra.

Chairing the high-level meeting, Minister Jinapor noted the significance of the gathering, which brought together representatives from over 70 countries and institutions.

The conference was organized in collaboration with Ghana’s Ministry of Energy and Green Transition, under the banner of expanding solar energy access and accelerating Africa’s green energy transformation.

In his address, Minister Jinapor emphasized Ghana’s strides in renewable energy, particularly in the deployment of solar technology.

He highlighted government initiatives such as solar installations for households and key public facilities, solar-powered street lighting, and off-grid solar solutions for island and remote communities.

“The transition to green energy is not just a necessity; it’s an opportunity for innovation, economic growth, and energy security,” he stated.

The Minister also urged the international community to prioritize local content and technology transfer in solar projects to ensure inclusive growth and sustainable development across the continent.

In a key development, Ghana signed a Partnership Framework Agreement with the International Solar Alliance, aimed at further promoting solar energy deployment in the country.

The ISA Regional Committee meeting forms part of broader efforts to foster cooperation among African nations in harnessing solar technology to address energy challenges and meet climate goals.
