Ghana’s Minister for Energy, Hon. John Abdulai Jinapor, has underscored the importance of a fair and equitable energy transition for Africa, emphasizing the continent’s right to leverage its natural resources for the benefit of its people.

Speaking on behalf of H.E. John Dramani Mahama, President of the Republic of Ghana, Minister Jinapor delivered the opening remarks at the 7th Meeting of the African Petroleum Producers Organisation (APPO) National Oil Companies (NOCs) CEOs Forum, held in Accra.

In his address, the Minister commended APPO for fostering collaboration among African national oil companies, and for ensuring the continent’s voice is heard on the global energy stage.
“The world speaks of an energy transition. But for Africa, we must insist that it must be a just transition,” Jinapor stated, stressing the need for a transition that is “fair, equitable, and reflective of our unique circumstances.”

He called on African energy leaders to prioritise initiatives that guarantee universal access to energy, and urged them to adopt smart, strategic, and sustainable policies that uphold national sovereignty.
“Africa has the right to use its natural resources for the benefit of its people,” the Minister asserted. “The future of Africa’s energy must be written by Africa, for Africa.”
The APPO NOCs CEOs Forum brings together top executives from national oil companies across the continent to strategize on Africa’s energy development, especially in the context of the global push for decarbonization and renewable energy.
The event marks a crucial moment for African energy leaders as they navigate the complexities of climate commitments while addressing the continent’s pressing developmental needs.
