The Executive Secretary of the Energy Commission, Ing. Eunice A. Biritwum, has paid a working visit to Tema Port as part of efforts to strengthen regulatory oversight within Ghana’s energy sector.

The visit underscores the Commission’s commitment to energy security, transparency, and operational efficiency at one of the country’s most strategic maritime gateways.

During the visit, Ing. Biritwum engaged with frontline officials, including inspectors, customs officers, and port authorities, to assess ongoing operations and reinforce collaboration in the monitoring of energy-related imports and exports.
Tema Port plays a critical role in the entry of energy equipment, petroleum products, and infrastructure essential to Ghana’s economic growth and energy supply.

The Energy Commission, as the statutory body responsible for regulating energy resources and equipment in Ghana, emphasized the importance of strict compliance with established standards.
Direct engagement with port officials helps prevent the entry of substandard or unsafe energy products into the local market, thereby safeguarding consumers and supporting national safety objectives.
The visit also provided an opportunity to better understand operational challenges at the port. By identifying bottlenecks and areas requiring improvement, the Commission aims to streamline regulatory processes, enhance efficiency, and improve service delivery across the energy value chain.
Recognizing the strategic role of ports in national energy security, the Commission highlighted the need for robust oversight to ensure the reliable and sustainable supply of energy resources. Capacity building was another key focus of the engagement, with attention given to equipping inspectors and customs officers with the knowledge and tools needed to enforce energy regulations effectively.
Overall, the visit to Tema Port reflects the Energy Commission’s proactive approach to governance, institutional collaboration, and accountability.
It reinforces Ghana’s long-term energy strategy while strengthening protections for consumers and supporting the country’s broader development goals.
