The Energy Commission has held its 3rd Board–Stakeholder Engagement at the Net Zero Energy Building (NZEB) Auditorium, bringing together key actors in Ghana’s energy efficiency ecosystem, particularly dealers in new electrical home appliances, for a strategic dialogue on enforcement and compliance.

The engagement, hosted by the Commission’s Board and Management, was marked by a strong spirit of collaboration and shared responsibility.

In her welcome address, the Acting Executive Secretary, Mrs. Eunice Biritwum, underscored the Commission’s commitment to sustained engagement with stakeholders as a critical pillar in advancing Ghana’s national energy efficiency agenda.

Delivering the keynote address, the Board Chairman, Prof. John Gartchie Gatsi, emphasized the far-reaching impact of stakeholders’ activities on electricity bills and overall national energy consumption.

He called for intensified inspectorate activities and reaffirmed the Board’s determination to fully enforce existing energy efficiency laws.

Prof. Gatsi also encouraged the resolution of disputes through internal mechanisms, assuring stakeholders of his personal commitment to fairness, transparency, and open dialogue.

The session featured a detailed presentation on stakeholder obligations and compliance requirements under the energy efficiency regulatory framework. Participants were guided through applicable guidelines and petition procedures, which are accessible on the Energy Commission’s website.

This was followed by an interactive discussion, during which questions and concerns were comprehensively addressed by the Board Chairman, the Acting Executive Secretary, and senior officials of the Commission, further strengthening mutual understanding and trust.

Stakeholders expressed strong satisfaction with the Commission’s efforts, commending the bold enforcement of long-standing regulations and describing Ghana’s energy efficiency policies as high-standard and forward-looking. Participants also called for intensified public education to raise awareness of the regulations.

In response, the Board Chairman welcomed the proposal and indicated the Board’s readiness to support funding for broader sensitization, particularly ahead of the enforcement of new regulations covering 21 electrical appliances.

The engagement concluded on a positive note, with participants reaffirming their commitment to compliance and partnership.

The dialogue at the NZEB Auditorium marked a decisive step toward strengthening collaboration and advancing the collective goal of a more energy-efficient Ghana.
