The Energy Commission has reaffirmed its commitment to fostering a transparent, compliant, and sustainable renewable energy sector through strengthened collaboration with industry players.

This was underscored during its second Board and Stakeholders Engagement, held at the City Escape Hotel in the Airport Residential Area, Accra.

The meeting brought together over 40 participants from across Ghana’s renewable energy landscape, including representatives from the private sector, regulatory bodies, and civil society organizations.
Chaired by the Board Chairman, Prof. John Gartchie Gatsi, the session focused on enhancing compliance, improving operational efficiency, and addressing key challenges within the renewable energy ecosystem. Prof. Gatsi highlighted the need for timely license renewals, proper labeling of imported equipment, and strict adherence to the Hazardous and Electronic Waste Control and Management Act, 2016 (Act 917).

“We will continue to organize sensitization programmes to ensure no one is left behind,” Prof. Gatsi assured stakeholders.
One of the key announcements from the engagement was the Commission’s plan to launch a digital portal for online license applications and monitoring.
The platform aims to streamline processes, promote transparency, and improve service delivery within the sector.
During the interactive session, stakeholders raised questions and shared suggestions on various issues, including net metering, license categorization, local content participation, and dispute resolution mechanisms.
Participants also proposed extending license renewal periods and promoting solar-powered water pumps to boost rural development.
Responding to these concerns, the Acting Executive Secretary, Mrs. Eunice Biritwum, together with the Heads of Legal and Renewable Energy Regulation, assured participants of the Commission’s readiness to work collaboratively with industry actors.
She reaffirmed that the Commission remains committed to advancing sector growth through continuous stakeholder engagement and education.
The event concluded on a positive note, with both the Commission and stakeholders pledging renewed dedication to building a robust, transparent, and sustainable renewable energy future for Ghana.
