Officials of Energy Commission have held the 21st Electrical Wiring Regulation Examination Awards ceremony in Kumasi.

The event happened on 1st October, 2024 at the Prempeh Assembly hall and forms part of the certification program introduced by the commission.

A total of 193 electricians and inspectors were certified at the event.

The figure adds up to already existing 16,000 electricians and inspectors who have been certified by the Commission under the program.

Out of the 193, 192 were males whereas 1 was recorded as female.

Theme for the ceremony was; “Electrical Wiring Goes Digital”.

Addressing newsmen, Fred Adjei Brobbey, Senior Officer at the Energy Commission said the essense of the programm is to bring sanity into the electric wiring industry by ensuring that only certified electricians are the ones to undertake wiring in the country.

He underlined the above as an ideal measure that will ensure the protection of lives and properties.

Touching on the low participation of women in the wiring profession, he said the commission has rolled measures and created avenues that will encourage more females to come into the wiring industry.

Impact of Certification Program

Samuel Frimpong (Senior Officer,Public Affairs -Energy Commission) told newsmen that the program has succeded in reducing drastically, the rate of house-hold fire outbreaks caused by faulty wiring as reported by the Ghana National Fire Service.

The programm according to him has brought sanity into the system, adding that facility owners are now embracing services of certified electricians.
