The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Hon. Samuel Nartey George (MP), has revealed plans to facilitate technology integration in the transport sector through strategic partnerships, while emphasizing that operational oversight will remain with the Ministry of Transport.
“We will ensure that any relevant technological conversation is well aligned, but the Transport Ministry will lead on operational matters,” he stated.
He said this when he met with representatives from Yango, Ministry of Transport and DVLA in his office on Friday, 15th August, 2025.
For his part, the Minister for Transport, Hon Joseph Bukari Nikpe welcomed the proposals, urging Yango to formally submit them for review. He confirmed that Ghana already has an electric vehicle policy with a roadmap for implementation and said government is keen on partnerships that improve transport infrastructure and services.
Both Ministers agreed that the meeting served as an introductory platform and that subsequent engagements will focus on detailed review of Yango’s proposals, with the aim of integrating viable solutions into Ghana’s transport system.
The meeting brought together the Minister for Transport Hon. Joseph Bukari Nikpe ; Deputy Minister, Transport, Dorcas Affo-Toffey; the Chief Director of Ministry of Transport, Mrs. Mabel Asi Sagoe; Mr. Abraham Zata, Acting Dir. Research Business and Innovation, DVLA.
The rest are senior representative from Yango including;
1. Shashi Singh – COO, MENA
2. Zanyiwe Asare – VP Public Policy, Africa
3. Tom Ofonime – Country Head, Ghana
4. Mohammed Suhuyini Zakaria – Public Policy Consultant, Ghana.
