Dr. Charles Dwamena, widely known in political circles as Dr. China, has officially announced his intention to contest for the influential position of General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), setting the stage for what promises to be a closely watched internal party race.

Dr. Dwamena made the declaration during an interview on Otec FM’s Dwaberem political show, hosted by Dr. Cash, just three days ahead of the NPP’s pivotal Presidential Primaries—a period he described as crucial to the party’s future direction.

Speaking passionately, Dr. Dwamena called on delegates and party members to prioritize unity over personal ambition, emphasizing that decisions made during the primaries should be guided by the overarching goal of building a cohesive front capable of reclaiming power in the 2028 general elections.
“The next presidential candidate of the NPP must not only possess competence and vision but also demonstrate the ability to unite all factions, heal divisions, and restore confidence among our grassroots and the broader Ghanaian electorate,” he stated.

Highlighting discipline, cohesion, and collective responsibility as essential, Dr. Dwamena underlined the strategic importance of the General Secretary’s office, describing it as the “engine room” of the party. He stressed that effective coordination, strict adherence to party structures, and vigorous grassroots mobilisation are critical to electoral success.
Explaining his decision to enter the race, Dr. Dwamena said his ambition is rooted in a commitment to reorganizing, energizing, and strengthening the party at all levels from polling stations to the national hierarchy so that the NPP emerges more formidable in future elections.
The announcement has generated renewed excitement and debate within party ranks, injecting fresh momentum into internal discussions as the NPP prepares for a defining phase of reorganization and strategic planning.
Political analysts suggest that Dr. Dwamena’s entry could significantly influence the dynamics of the contest, especially as calls for unity, discipline, and structural coherence continue to dominate conversations within the party.
