DAMAK Sanitation Health Watch, Ghana, in partnership with the International Direct Project (IDP) of Switzerland, has honoured distinguished personalities whose tireless contributions have significantly improved sanitation standards across the Ashanti Region.

The ceremony, held in Kumasi during the 3rd edition of the Damak–IDP Sanitation Excellence Awards, celebrated individuals whose work has promoted cleaner communities and enhanced public health.

Among the awardees were Hon. Owusu King, Assemblyman for Tafo Nhyiaeso and CEO of Royal Nursing College; Hon. Samuel Kolebilaà Duabuuri, Assemblyman for the Adenyaase Serwaaba Electoral Area; Alhaji Ibrahim Wahab Tikuma, Ashanti Regional Chief Butcher; and Alhaji Musah Abubakari, Managing Director of Basfam Company Limited, among others.

Hon. Owusu King emerged as the overall best awardee, recognised for his exceptional leadership and impactful sanitation initiatives within the Tafo Nhyiaeso electoral area.

Alhaji Ibrahim Wahab Tikuma was also specially honoured for his efforts in improving sanitary conditions at the Kumasi Abattoir.

Addressing guests at the event, Daniel Mbabugri Akgri, CEO of Damak Sanitation Health Watch, applauded the awardees for their dedication to promoting public hygiene. He explained that the awards scheme aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 6, which seeks to ensure clean water and proper sanitation for all.

Akgri further revealed that the organisation will, in 2026, launch an inter-school community sanitation challenge across all metropolitan, municipal, and district assemblies. The initiative will engage schools in designing innovative solutions to tackle sanitation challenges in their communities. He also announced plans, supported by Damak’s foreign partners, to construct additional boreholes in underserved communities.

Representing IDP Switzerland, Pierre P. Petitjean, CEO of the organisation, commended the award recipients for their outstanding efforts and reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to promoting sanitation initiatives in Ghana.

In his acceptance speech, Hon. Owusu King expressed gratitude to Damak-IDP for the honour, emphasizing that the recognition will further motivate him to intensify his efforts toward improving sanitation in his area. He also pledged to support the organisation’s mission both financially and materially.

The Damak–IDP Sanitation Excellence Awards continue to serve as a platform for celebrating individuals and institutions dedicated to creating safer, cleaner, and healthier environments across Ghana.
