

Dabokpa Technical Institute has emerged victorious in the Northern Zone competition of the 2025 Energy Commission Senior High Schools Renewable Energy Challenge (ECSHSREC), earning the top spot with an impressive score of 82%.
The school wowed a panel of judges with a functional prototype of a solar-powered incubator, featuring a range of innovative applications. This groundbreaking project secured their place at the Grand Finale of the national competition.


Held on Monday, August 11, 2025, at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) College of Engineering Auditorium, the contest saw Dabokpa Technical Institute outshine seven other schools from the Northern Zone.

Top 3 Qualifiers:

- 1st Place: Dabokpa Technical Institute – 82%
- 2nd Place: Ola Girls’ Senior High School – 76%
- 3rd Place: Damongo Senior High School – 76%

4th: Sunyani SHS – 73%
5th: Kintampo SHS – 71%
6th: Bolgatanga SHS – 70%
7th: Walewale SHS – 66%
According to the competition rules, the top three schools—Dabokpa Technical Institute, Ola Girls’ SHS, and Damongo SHS—have earned spots at the national Grand Finale, where they’ll face other regional champions.
The competition, themed “Sustainable Energy for a Healthier Future,” showcased inventive student projects addressing real-world challenges such as food security, waste management, and healthcare through the lens of renewable energy.
The initiative is spearheaded by the Energy Commission in partnership with the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) under a formal Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). It aims to cultivate a strong interest in renewable energy and energy efficiency among senior high school and technical students across Ghana.
Importantly, the program offers financial support to student teams to bring their innovations to life and encourages real-world implementation of their ideas.

- Dr. William Kwame Amankra, Ashanti Regional Director, Ghana Education Service
- Mr. Richard Addo-Gyamfi, Ashanti Regional Director, Ghana TVET Service
Speaking to the press, Dr. Amankra praised the initiative as a vital platform for nurturing young minds and urged schools nationwide to participate.
He also encouraged institutions to embrace alternative energy sources to reduce pressure on Ghana’s national electricity grid.
