A group within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) calling itself Concerned Patriots for Party Discipline and Respect has issued a strongly worded statement condemning what it describes as “unprovoked insults” by the Bono Regional Chairman of the party, Kwame Baffoe Abronye, against former Minister of Health and Roads & Transport, Dr. Richard Winfred Anane.

In a press release signed by Lawyer William Kusi, the group expressed deep disappointment over Abronye’s alleged verbal attacks on Dr. Anane, whom they described as “one of the NPP’s most revered statesmen.”

According to the statement, Dr. Anane, during a recent interview on Abusua FM, had made a “simple and patriotic appeal” urging the NPP to restore discipline, unity, and respect for elders to improve its chances of returning to power in 2028.

However, the group says Abronye responded by using his online platform, Ohia TV, to “hurl baseless accusations” and call Dr. Anane a “thief” and an “unqualified doctor.”

“This behavior is beneath the dignity of our party and a direct insult to His Excellency President J. A. Kufuor, the very man whose legacy built the modern NPP,” the statement said.

Leadership Silence Questioned

The group also expressed concern over what it described as the “dangerous silence” of the Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign team (DMB team) and the NPP’s national executives, including National Chairman Stephen Ntim and General Secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua.

They questioned why the party’s disciplinary structures had not taken action against Abronye, alleging that the Bono Regional Chairman’s actions continue unchecked because he enjoys protection from the DMB campaign machinery.

“Would Abronye have the audacity to continually insult and malign party elders if he were not shielded by the DMB team?” the release asked, adding that the party’s disciplinary committee appeared “toothless” when dealing with those aligned with certain factions.

Calls for Action

Lawyer Kusi compared the current situation to previous instances in which former executives such as Kwabena Agyepong, Paul Afoko, and Sammy Crabbe were swiftly suspended for what he termed “lesser offenses.”

He further criticized Abronye’s leadership record in the Bono Region, noting that the NPP’s parliamentary seats there had dropped from 11 to just one under his watch.

“To our delegates and patriots across Ghana, let this be a wake-up call. A campaign that protects indiscipline cannot lead Ghana. A leadership that shields insolence cannot unite us,” the statement declared.

The group is calling on the national leadership of the NPP and the Bawumia campaign to “immediately and publicly distance themselves” from Abronye’s conduct and to take firm disciplinary action.

“Silence is complicity, and complicity is betrayal,” the statement warned, adding that if party leadership fails to act, delegates will express their disapproval “at the ballot box.”

Appeal to Party Values

The release concluded with an appeal for the NPP to return to its founding principles of Respect, Discipline, and Unity, emphasizing that the legacy of former President John Agyekum Kufuor must be protected.

“Our elders deserve honour, not insults. Our party deserves order, not impunity,” it said.
