The Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovation has launched the seventh edition of the Girls-In-ICT Open Day, welcoming 100 outstanding girls from the Ashanti and Greater Accra Regions to the Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT (GI-KACE) for an immersive experience in the tech world.
The selected girls, who distinguished themselves during regional ICT training and competitions, are being given rare, first-hand exposure to the digital ecosystemβinteracting with female professionals in STEM, exploring emerging technologies, and envisioning their future roles in Ghanaβs growing digital economy.

Representing the sector minister, Hon. Samuel Nartey George, at the event was Deputy Minister Hon. Mohammed Adam Sukparu (MP), who emphasized the governmentβs commitment to investing in the potential of young women and dismantling long-standing barriers to their participation in the digital space.

βWe are not just marking another event,β he said. βWe are charting a future where every girlβregardless of her location or backgroundβhas the tools and the confidence to thrive in the digital age.β

Hon. Sukparu described the Girls-In-ICT initiative as one of the Ministryβs most impactful programmes, a cornerstone of inclusive development. He highlighted its recent success in the Volta Region, where over 1,000 girls were trained and empowered to pursue careers in technology.

βThis initiative isnβt about just training numbersβitβs about transformation,β he said.
βWe are nurturing a generation of developers, AI engineers, cybersecurity specialists, data scientists, and digital innovators.β
The Deputy Minister also underscored the significance of the Open Day, describing it as more than a ceremonial milestoneβit is a living classroom where girls are exposed to real-world tech applications, learn from seasoned professionals, and see tangible pathways to careers in ICT.
In alignment with Ghanaβs Vision 2030 digital transformation agenda, the Ministry has also introduced the One Million Coders Programme, which seeks to train one million Ghanaians in coding, AI, cloud technologies, cybersecurity, and data protectionβwith a strong focus on empowering girls and underserved youth.
Hon. Sukparu extended appreciation to American Tower Corporation (ATC), the sole sponsor of the initiative, for its consistent support. He also acknowledged key partners including MTN, AT, Telecel, the National Communications Authority (NCA), National Information Technology Agency (NITA), Ghana Digital Centres Limited (GDCL), Cybersecurity Authority (CSA), and GI-KACE.
βLet us continue to work togetherβpolicymakers, educators, industry leaders, and citizensβto close the digital gender gap. The Ministry remains unwavering in its mission to ensure no girl is left behind,β he concluded.
